Department Spotlight: Nutrition Services

Our staff serves approximately 2,198 breakfasts and 2,853 lunches each day across our six buildings. Not only do they feed our students during the day, but they also serve 190 meals a day to our local daycares. The afterschool dinner program currently provides dinner to about 100 students at Seaford High School and will soon be expanded to Seaford Middle School in the next few weeks.

One of the department’s most known accomplishment may be the success of the Fresh and Delicious (FAD) Truck. The summer feeding program was recently highlighted by Senator Carper’s office for their ongoing commitment to our students. The FAD Truck averages 408 lunches a day throughout the summer months.

Our elementary students are also provided a variety of free fresh fruits and vegetables two to three times a week as part of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.

The Nutrition Services staff cater functions within the district. They provide catering services for our August staff kickoff breakfast, honor roll breakfasts at SHS, Seaford Community Prayer Breakfast, the Homecoming dance, and Prom.

The Nutrition Services department is supervised by Julie Kirby. Julie says, “I am very fortunate to work with such a wonderful and caring group of Nutrition Services Professionals. It is no small feat to feed thousands of students safe and nutritious meals, but that is what is done daily with kindness and extreme dedication. Thank you to each of them for the work they do for the Seaford School District.”
