School-Based Health Center opens at Frederick Douglass Elementary

The School-Based Health Center (SBHC) is a partnership between Nemours Children's Health and the Seaford School District. Through this partnership, health care is provided In the SBHC at Frederick Douglass Elementary School by a Physician or Nurse Practitioner and a Psychologist or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health.

The SBHC offers services such as physicals, health screenings, immunizations, diagnosis and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, counseling, crisis intervention and suicide prevention, and health education. The SBHC does not take the place of a pediatrician or family doctor, but work with your child's doctor to care for your child.

Superintendent Dr. Sharon DiGirolamo shared, "This partnership signifies a commitment to the health and well-being of our students and the entire Seaford community. It demonstrates our collective dedication to fostering an environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive, both academically and physically. The Frederick Douglass Elementary School-Based Health Center is a place where our students will receive comprehensive healthcare services, enabling them to stay in school and focus on their education.

Our goal is to provide access to these services to all four of our elementary schools next school year. We are excited to see this project come to life as we provide a healthier and brighter future for our Blue Jays!
